Apostolos Michopoulos

EEDB Lab Deputy Director, Mechanical Engineer, Dipl.-Ing. (M.Eng.), M.Sc., Ph.D.

Dr. Apostolos Michopoulos  has a Diploma, and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.Th.), and a M.Sc. on Project Management offered by the Open Hellenic University. He is the Deputy Director of Energy and Environmental Design of Buildings Research Lab., and teaching and research Scientist Expert in the School of Engineering, at the University of Cyprus (UCY). In addition to the research activities and lectures in UCY, he is also working as a leader trainer in technical seminars conducted by public or private institutions and educational bodies, and independent consultant in private and public sector. His advisory services provide energy planning consultancy to governments and other organizations, and efficient implementation of energy technologies in residential, commercial and industrial projects. Prior to his UCY collaboration, he worked in Process Equipment Design Laboratory and in Laboratory of Building Construction and Physics of A.U.Th., and in Energy and Environmental Economics and Policy Research Group at Cyprus University of Technology. His research is mainly focused on conventional and renewable energy systems, energy systems analysis, and energy efficiency of equipment and processes. In the past 20 years he has participated in more than 40 research projects and grants, resulting in more than 90 scientific and technical articles, and 9 book chapters. He is also an elected Member of American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and of the European Technology Platform on Renewable Heating & Cooling, (RHC-Platform) on Geothermal Technology Panel. He is the representative of Cyprus in the Technical Committee 301 of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) working on “Energy management and energy savings” and active member of the mirror committees of the Cyprus Organization for Standardization (CYS).
